Mozambique’s Electricity (EDM) will provide 70 megawatts of energy to Botswana by September this year, under an agreement that came into effect this month, the Mozambican company said on Friday.

“In April, EDM and its tsunami counterpart concluded an energy supply agreement, which entered into force in May, forecasting the sale of 70 megawatts by September,” said EDM administrator for the Markets Area, Adérito de Sousa .

The operation will allow EDM to settle five million dollars a month over the duration of the agreement.

Adérito de Sousa said the two countries are negotiating for Mozambique to return power to Botswana between 2020 and 2022.

In addition to Botswana, EDM sells energy directly to Lesotho and a consortium of Southern African suppliers, which then sells to some states in the region.
