WHN Solar, in collaboration with the Machel Fidus Foundation and the Community Development Foundation (FDC), donated 100 solar kits to victims of cyclone IDAI in the provinces of Sofala, Tete and Zambézia. The solar kits were supplied by Solar Verde and were distributed by FDC and WHN Solar during the month of April 2019.

Cyclone IDAI, which devastated the central region of the country during the second half of March 2019, affected 1.8 million people and left several parts of the country without energy. In the city of Beira and in some districts of the provinces of Sofala, Manica and north of Inhambane, where cyclone IDAI passed with more intensity, the trail of destruction was evident. Infrastructures of all kinds were razed from housing, schools, hospitals, commerce and public institutions.

The solar kits donated by WHN Solar consist of a small solar panel, a lamp and USB ports for charging mobile phones. “With this initiative we hope to be able to alleviate the suffering of some families in the central region, giving temporary access to lighting and energy,” said Ntanzi Carrilho, CEO of WHN Solar. “We’d like to thank  FDC for helping us get these kits to the families in need.”

WHN Solar is a 100% Mozambican company that is developing a solar and storage project in Nacala with capacity of up to 100MW, to be developed in increments of 20MW. The feasibility study of the project is being conducted by HDR International Inc, based on a grant awarded to WHN Solar by the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA).
